Brett Dennen decided to get back to basics on his fifth album, Smoke & Mirrors.“I wanted to return to the folk and acoustic music I loved when I began writing,” he said. “I decided to tap into my memories and explore new emotional territory as honestly as I could.”His new album, out today (October 22), was produced by Charlie Peacock and features current single “Wild Child,” which showcases Dennen’s familiar vocals alongside a sing-along chorus and impressive slide guitar. Recorded in Nashville, Dennen said his choice for the album title was that things aren’t exactly as they appear to be, a theme that runs through the album.
