Tilbury专辑介绍:Man, what a surprise. As I was perusing Rdio.coms `new releases section a couple weeks ago I came across a band called Tilbury. Kind of a strange name in itself. But then the album cover took the cake for strange. A drawing of a man and woman. The woman kind June Cleaver-ish and the man looking like an airline pilot. But heres the thing: their faces were melting into a green blob and stringing together. With an album title like Exorcise,I knew I had to listen to it. `Tenderloin, the first track and lead single started playing and I was floored. A melancholy and dreamy track, I instantly loved it. This was not the avante garde primal scream techno goth I thought it was going to be. It was a little piece of paradise oozing from my speakers and into my skull. From what I could find(which wasnt much), Tilbury is a band from Iceland. A supergroup of sorts, with members of big time Icelandic rock bands that none of us have ever heard of. But thats beside the point, because whomever these Norsemen are, together they make beautiful, sad and at times mournful tinkling pop songs. For instance, the song `Sunblinds sounds like Grandaddys Jason Lytle found a copy of Alan Parsons Projects Eye In The Sky and listened to it for a week straight and then hit the studio. `Slow Motion Fighter sounds like Jeff Lynne producing Blonde Redhead. The perfect mix of nostalgic lamenting and sugary pop hooks. Lots of analog synths and nuanced guitar noodling. Theres a pretty steady pace here. No slow motion 3\u002F4 time Sparklehorse funeral dirges or kinetic speed trials happening here. Although the track `Eclectic Boogaloo does sorta rock. At least as much as these Icelandic pop provocateurs can rock. But `rocking out isnt the name of the game for Tilbury. Their mission statement, as far as I can tell, is to write catchy, melancholy pop songs that youll want to mine for future mixtape purposes. They travel a road worn and torn by bands like Grandaddy, Sparklehorse, Blonde Redhead, Alan Parsons Project and ELO. Theres a nostalgic twist, while at the same time coming off as pop music written and performed by homesick aliens. This is the soundtrack for a million mile jaunt through vast space, with many a light years still to go before theyre back in the arms of loved ones.
