A fighter lets his fists do the talking. A competitive sportsman lets his game speak for him. For the greats, silence speaks volumes. You won’t see Thomas White make too much noise. From his folk styling to his self-promotion he tends to perform on the quiet side. Even the website of his record label creates a similar vibe. Just let the music play. The beginning of the album Yalla! however follows a similar mantra to its creator. Take time, the best things are worth waiting for. When viewing White’s promotional activity, his Facebook page says very little, apart from an indiscriminate message “Approximation x Improvisation = Maximalism”. His updates are equally short-lived when they happen “i’m doin’ a gig, innit!” ‘All The Fallen Leaves’ takes almost a minute to begin properly, but when it does the honest guitar leads a slow sombre song. The double-layered guitar and vocals of ‘I’ll See Her Again’ produces a powerful tone to an interesting ballad but shifts in to a haunting gear as it enters the middle-eight.‘That Heavy Sunshine Sound’ has a bluesy folk sound that is reminiscent of Badly Drawn Boy. The open chords played on a slightly un-tuned guitar is an endearing quality that should be appreciated rather than discredited as there is notion that Thomas White understands every intrinsic detail of what he is doing.Read more at https://hangout.altsounds.com/reviews/143166-thomas-white-yalla-album.html#A7g2cKXcOAMTHH6S.99
