Deeper grooves than ever before from Roman Andren – a set that still has all the great soul and jazz touches of his previous work, but which also brings in a bit of a global influence as well! Andren's in the jungle on the cover, and that's a very good place to start with this one – as there's some earthy, organic undercurrents amidst the grooves – Latin and Afro-styled rhythms that blend with the warmer, fusion-based styles we usually hear from Roman's keyboards! Roman plays Fender Rhodes and acoustic piano on the set – and there's full horns and a bit of strings on some numbers – and a fair bit of vocals too, although there's still lots of room for Andren to stretch out instrumentally. The most soulful cuts almost take us back to that magical time when Columbia Records was doing such a good job of blending jazz and soul in its grooves – a taste of Ronnie Foster or Rodney Franklin, both artists whose late 70s work would sound great next to a good part of this set.
