by Scott YanowAlthough a talented swing\u002Fbop vibraphonist, Harry Sheppard allows his talent on this CD to be buried under the very monotonous rhythms of drummer Steve Allison. With a flutist resembling Herbie Mann (Bob Chadwick) and a few witty orignals, this session had the potential to revive the sound of West Coast jazz of the late '50s. But no such luck, for the rhythm section does not allow the listener to ever forget where the beat is (except on Sheppard's unaccompanied ballad Always There). This music will eventually anger anyone listening to it too closely.
