I don't know what to make of Liz Janes' song topics. Her faith is all over Say Goodbye but you know what, it doesn't even matter when I think back to her voice. Anyway, she admits one of the more direct inspirations for this album is soul music. This album is indeed soulful and even when it veers near spirituality, it still is sonically tasty. The rich and dreamy sound of this album sticks to the ears and haunts. There is a friendliness to its ethereal-ness. It doesn't chill you to the bones but invites you to join in the fun. It helps that Liz Janes is a confident singer, a vocalist who knows her limitations and still manages to sound searing and blistering. Even when she sings a ballad like the whispery closer Time and Space, she sounds strong. Her past albums may have sounded cacophonic but now, the arrangements are simple and have a floating quality. Maybe it's the peace of mind her God brings but if this is the result of her trust in the lord, then pray on, sistah, pray on.
