On April 3, 2012, UK band Failsafe released their newest album, Routines. Routines is the band’s third album, but their first in North America. The band has already achieved a great deal of success in Europe, and has even appeared in popular UK sitcoms. With the release of Routines, the group is now set to dominate North America. It’s a ten track album, and all ten tracks are strong. Dynamic vocals, energetic drumming, and excellent riffs on distorted guitars are to be expected from any rock group, but Failsafe delivers this and more. The band manages to craft a sound both unique and comfortable for rock fans. It’s easy to understand why they received such favorable reviews across Europe. The first track, “The Persistence of Memory” begins quietly, with ticking. But don’t turn up your speakers too much, because that ticking counts into an explosion of sound, as the guitar comes roaring in. The listener immediately knows that this album will be a fast rocking, energetic undertaking. The second track is the title one. It’s aggressive and enthusiastic, though it has moments where it seems to be calming down a little. Those moments always feed into quick builds though, and eventually the track breaks into huge, soaring choruses. That’s generally the style of the album, although that’s not to say that the tracks are all the same. Far from it, they are all interesting and strong enough to stand on their own.The album ends on “Worth The Wait,” where the densely packed sound that characterized much of the album opens up a little, the track ending with some gentle, smoother sounding guitar. After such a high energy album, it feels almost cathartic for the album to end on a softer note.
