Melbourne four-piece, Brittle, announce the release of their debut single 'Chinese Whispers' taken from the forthcoming EP of the same name which hits retail on January 17 2009 and the announcement of their national 'Chinese Whispers' tour dates. Brittle's goal has been simple since day one, to capture audiences and create infectious rock songs that people can dance to.Brittle, whose name derived randomly with no real thought or reason but a name quickly favoured by the band, formed in 2003 at age 14 as a three piece band from the Northern NSW town of Ballina who quickly developed a taste for a different musical style drawing inspiration from artists such as The Who, The Police & Counting Crows. Our influences are all over the place, Bill says. These three bands are very different to what we are musically yet we share certain elements within our song writing that have been picked up through these and many other bands. In early 2007 the band added Ben O'Dwyer on Guitar, completing the band's current line up. After spending the remainder of 2007 touring and refining the band's unique sound, it was in 2008 that the band made the move from small town to big smoke, moving to Melbourne to further pursue their musical journey and their first time in the recording studio to lay down the tracks for their debut EP release. It was time for change, said Ben of the move to Melbourne. There is only so much you can do in a small area. Melbourne felt like it was the place we had to be as there is a lot more of a live music scene here and we knew it would help us improve and tighten us up as a band. Described by the band as a fast, in your face song,Brittle's title track 'Chinese Whispers' will be the first taste fans will have of the EP when its released to radio nationally on December 15. It's about being at the centre of a rumour that spreads and evolves from person to person like wild fire and the idea that people will try anything to bring you down says Ben.People may love it or hate it but the subject of the song is something that everyone can relate to at some point in their lives. It's a common issue in today's society. The EP is a musical journey for the listener that showcases the bands versatile musical style and also includes the band's own take on the ever popular track 'Valerie' originally made famous by UK indie rock band The Zutons in 2006 and then again in 2007 by Amy Winehouse. In support of the EP release, Brittle will embark on a 19 date east coast tour which kicks off in Brisbane on January 8.Having worked the touring scene constantly over the past two years, Brittle have supported many high profile artists such as The Angels, The Veronicas, Snow Patrol, Wolfmother, a slot on Splendour in Grass and The Indy 300 on the Gold Coast. And what would you expect from a Brittle show? Four friends who play good music with a tight show filled up with three part vocal harmonies and catchy songs that will follow you home, describes Geoff.Joining the band on all the shows will be Melbourne band ikarii, who recently release their EP 'Crash Burn Hold Tight' in September.
