Lich King's 2017 release THE OMNICLASM features 10 tracks of aggressive, stompy thrash metal in the old tradition, with none of that pesky forced innovation mixed in. The albummarks the Massachusetts-based band's fifth full-length and a continuation of their DIY nature with an independent release. As with 2012's BORN OF THE BOMB and 2014's DO-OVER EP, the new album was produced and mixed by drummer Brian Westbrook (Barishi, Condition Critical) at Sonic Titan Studios, and album art and design were handled by vocalist Tom Martin.Lyrical content on THE OMNICLASM addresses humanitarianism, problems within metal as a genre, their eponymous mascot’s further adventures, an LGBT fight song and disease-carrying toddlers. The comedy in Lich King’s lyrics frequently marks them as a “joke band” in the eyes of some shortsighted elitists, like the music isn’t headbangable or something.
