Quieres Chicle (or “Do You Want Chewing Gum?”) is a boutique record label conceived by KCRW DJ Mathieu Schreyer. Established in LA in 2012, the label focuses on releasing honest soul music that defies trends and endures the test of time. Music is available as singles and EPs only in vinyl and digital formats. Quieres Chicle Records is very proud to announce their second release from newcomer ORFEO, produced and co-written with Robin Hannibal (Quadron) and recorded in Los Angeles in 2011. Born Robert Castillo, ORFEO is a classically trained opera singer from Los Angeles. The name ORFEO was chosen as a tribute to the Baroque opera titled L’Orfeo, whose central theme is the Greek legend Orpheus’ ability to seduce all living things with his music and sound. Although ORFEO’s background revolves around a classical setting, his vocal styling and influences are drawn from modern singers Smokey Robinson, Donna Summer and Sylvester. Together with Robin Hannibal, they have created two tracks to showcase his influences and styles: The synth heavy uptempo No Substitution and the soulful downtempo Quiet Nights. - From producer Robin Hannibal, “I got in touch with Orfeo online, and one day he posted this nice video of him singing, and I loved the sound of his voice. I invited him over and we played around with some music and we wrote two songs together. He is huge talent with a great voice and taste.“
