Chet Baker was a true icon of the West Coast ‘Cool School’ of jazz with immense talent and proficiency as a trumpeter as well as a great singing voice which teamed with his good looks made for him set for stardom. Baker’s breakthrough came when he joined Gerry Mulligan’s quartet, however repeated brushes with the law including short jail terms for drug related offences meant that Baker’s body of work was sporadic however rewarding to the listener. Disc 1 ‘Chet’, showcased solely instrumental ballads and is perfect example of mood setting jazz. Disc 2 ‘Chet Plays Lemer & Loewe’ was one of the last he recorded in the US. The album plays tribute to Alan Jay Lemer and Frederick Loewe and their extensive Broadway catalogue. Disc 3 ‘Chet Baker & Crew’ featured the quintet flying through eight west-coast jazz tracks, each member demonstrating exceptional ability and prowess. All tracks have been digitally remastered for optimum enjoyment of the work of a jazz phenomenon.
