The trombone has undergone a great evolution in its history. In the ragtime era it was basically a rhythm instrument. Then as musical styles changed and more trombonists became technically proficient, it became one of the principal melody instruments in the orchestra. Bradley, whose tone can take on a vibrant, subdued, or subtle quality at Will, has been one of its outstanding exponents.
