Straight off the back of his remix for Kano’s recent track ‘Wavy’, the young North London producer\u002FDJ J Beatz returns with his latest release, the ‘Injunction’ EP, due on his own imprint, ‘Crown Jules’. Backed by a heavyweight remix from the Gobstopper Records owner Mr. Mitch, ‘Injunction’ is also joined by two further tracks, ‘R.I.P’ and ‘Foundation Riddim’, making this his first official solo release of the year. The EP itself offers us an insight into J Beatz's development over the last 12 months; such is the unrelenting strength of title-track 'Injunction', it is clear to see that time and patience are truly paying dividend. A short but timely introduction paves the way for a monstrous bass line, encapsulating all of grime's signature gritty strength to form a rip-roaring, no holds barred 140 cut. Mr. Mitch's rework is subtle, although this is arguably its strength, with sharp stabs, additional breakdowns and neat sampling providing an enjoyable, clean-cut experimental twist. ‘R.I.P’ offers an extension to the blueprint, with a longer, more drawn-out instrumental that suddenly erupts, complete with another booming bass line whilst ‘Foundation Riddim’ is more mellow in its conception, although still awash with grimy inclination; the two compliment Injunction well in both style and substance. Being his first instrumental release for some time, J Beatz has left nothing to chance and there is real, cohesive power to his latest work - Injunction captures the raw, hard-edged sound of grime in 2012 to great effect and heavy radio backing has already ensured it'll be one of the autumn's hotly anticipated releases.
