Drawn to music for as long as he can remember, John Solia discovered his passion for singing around age nine. Eager to better himself, he began classical vocal training when he was 12 and continued learning throughout his years at James Cook High School.
He achieved many awards throughout 1998 to 2001 as part of a four part harmony quartet dubbed Sweet Sounds, with his older brother and two friends. He was the youngest of the group and was equally successful as a solo artist.
In 2005, Deach, a member of the record breaking group Smashproof (SP) along with members Tyree and Young Sid, approached him to sing on a few of their tracks. This was the opening needed and Jae'O was born.
He featured on their first mixtape, Speed Of Sound, with Weekend Thang which became a popular hit with his growing group of fans. Jae'O was then honoured with an invitation to accompany Tyree to Australia where they opened for the Jay-Z Tour, also featuring international artists Neyo and Rihanna.
They opened up for yet more remarkable music artists, hip-hop heavyweights; Ying Yang Twins, Ice Cube, and DMX. Jae'O also featured on DJ Sir Vere's recognised Major Flavours 5 and 5.5 mixtapes.
Going on to perform at the Hip Hop Summit 2005, Wasted Youth Tour in 2006, with a highlight in 2006 and 2007; one of New Zealand's most celebrated annual summer concerts, Big Day Out.
Jae'O then teamed up with new artist Cavell. For their first showcase they were asked to perform as a supporting act on The Weekend, a nationwide NZ Tour with Smashproof, which took place in May 2009. Their first single Girlfriend featuring NZ Artist Dei Hamo, scored radio time and was well liked by the fans. They also performed as part of the Sneakout Tour in August 2009 which included performances from SP's Tyree and Deach, Ethical and Robin Johnson.
Always growing and developing his talent, throughout 2010, Jae'O has been focusing on his solo career, writing and recording. Always one to entertain, he has also been supporting new artist Pieter T in shows around NZ, as well as a show at the Fairfield City Fair in Sydney.
He is currently working on his original music and was recently privileged to receive a grant from TVNZ on Air to put out his first single. His humbling introductions to the national and international music scene helped polish him into the performer that he is about to become.
