At the age of eight, classically-trained pianist and composer Matthew Stewart began taking piano lessons from his mother, Marsha Stewart, who herself was the pianist at the Christian church the Stewart family attended. Immediately falling in love with the instrument, playing quickly became a passion. Matthew became a Christian at the age of ten; he began playing in church in his early teens and began writing his own music while still in high school. After high school, Matthew went on to study Piano Performance at the University of New Mexico under the direction of Juilliard graduate Pamela Pyle and graduated with his music degree in 2010. Matthew is currently on staff at Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he serves as pianist on a weekly basis. All glory to God! May Stone Canvas serve to glorify Him!
Matthew was born in Farmington, New Mexico and moved to Albuquerque at an early age. He currently resides there with his wife, Carolyn.
Jason Brown is a multi-instrumentalist, with alto and soprano sax, acoustic and electric guitar, and bass as his main instruments. A native of Grass Valley, CA, he attended the University of Nevada, Reno to study physics and applied mathematics, and while there received instruction in jazz improvisation under Dr. Larry Engstrom. His involvement in the UNR Wind Ensemble and Jazz Lab I and II furthered his performance skills, and he also led the low brass section in the UNR Wolf Pack Marching Band as a principal trombonist. While at UNR, Jason was privileged to share a stage with Bob Berg, Phil Woods, Bobby Shew and Tito Puente.
After graduate studies in physics at UNR, he relocated to Ames, Iowa to attend Iowa State University, earning an advanced degree in astrophysics. Additional studies at the University of New Mexico led to his current career in applied physics in the aerospace and defense industry. He frequently plays bass, acoustic or electric guitar in the worship band at New Covenant Church in Albuquerque, NM where he lives with his wife Tammy and three children.
