Moulettes are a British Orchestral Progressive Folk Rock band. The Band was formed in 2002 in Glastonbury by Hannah Miller (Songwriter, Vocals, Cello, Guitar), Ruth Skipper (Vocals, Bassoon, Auto-harp), Robert Skipper (The Holloways), Oliver Austin (Drums, Guitar, vocals) and Ted Dwane (Mumford and Sons). Hannah found Georgina Leach during a session and joined in 2004 after the band moved to Manchester. Since the bands resettlement South in 2007 the ensemble has seen the addition of percussionists Rob Arcari, multi-instrumentalist Jim Mortimore (Arthur Brown, Chris Jagger) and singers Laura Hockenhull and Faye Houston.
Moulettes have often received positive reviews from mainstream press due to their original, dynamic and other-worldly sound. Their Eponymous debut Album ‘Moulettes’ found its way onto several Best Of The Year lists and won an Innovation Award from Fatea roots-music website. Their follow up is to be released in late June 2012 following the release of their new single ‘Sing Unto Me.’ Having toured extensively and played at many festivals since their inception Moulettes have shared the stage and studio with Seasick Steve, John Paul Jones, The Ting Tings, Mumford and Sons, Band Of Skulls, Paul Heaton, Bonobo, Liz Green, The Unthanks, Arthur Brown and many more of note.
History
 Early years: 2002-2009
During and after they left college Hannah, Ruth, Rob (Skipper), Oliver, Ted and Geogina were playing regularly in London together. They put on the notorious 'Den of Iniquity' nights at the 12 bar playing their strange flavor of folk inspired music alongside the best up and coming Indy bands of the time including Patrick Wolf and Mystery Jets. It was during this period Moulettes started playing at Mystery Jets Eel Pie Island parties. These gigs championed some of the best indy, prog, pyschedellic and new wave folk bands. After these parties got shut down Moulettes ended up supporting Mystery Jets & The Noisettes on the Eel pie Island tour.
Very soon after this creative time Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons recruited Ted, Rob Skipper left to join The Holloways and Georgina wanted a break from music and went to live in Australia. Determined to document the many songs that had been played live over the years Hannah, Ruth and Oliver forged a newly arranged 3 piece. It was on this foundation that the unique sound for the first album was made.
During this period Oliver, Ruth and Hannah helped found Sotones Music Co-operative label in Southampton and released their first split single Wilderness with Peter Lyons. However, after a few years of seeing the Moulettes at 'The Den of Iniquity’, Seasick Steve’s previous management/label who had been courting the band for year’s offered to release the comng album on Balling the Jack records.
 Moulettes: 2009-2011
The album was recorded in Winchester at Valley Studios where Rob Skipper and Oliver Austin originally met. The album was mixed by Neil Kennedy at The Ranch in Southampton. Near the end of the sessions Georgina announced her return from Australia and was willing to record on several of the tracks. These last stages of the sessions also saw the recruitement of Rob Arcari and a guest vocal appearance from Emma Richardson Band Of Skulls on the Folk Rock epic, “Requiem”. The band toured the ambitious record in the Uk and Europe as a Quintet.
 The Bear’s Revenge: 2011-present
The band returned to Winchester to record with Ben Startup and joined forces with Joe Gibb (Leftfield, Catatonia, Kinks) to co-produce their second album. The sessions saw the return of Ted Dwane on Double bass and the addition of Jim Mortimore (Son of drummer Malcolm Mortimore), Laura Hockenhull of The Copper Family, and Faye Houston. Guest appearances include Liz Green on folk-prog fugue ‘Blood And Thunder’, Bonjoist Matt Menefee (Cadillac Sky, Chessboxer) and Ríoghnach Connolly (folk singer, flute and whistle).
Ruth Skipper is taking a break from her medicine career to tour the record alongside Hannah, Oliver, George and Jim. They have started to play the new material live including a support show with Seasick Steve at the Hammersmith Apollo. Laura Hockenhull is not touring due to her being on maternity leave.
 Musical Style and Influences
Moulettes have developed a unique style that is performed with a mixture of acoustic and electric instruments including Cello, Bassoon, violin, guitar, bass, auto-harp, drums and group vocals. Their songs often explore dramatic narratives and surreal characters that owe as much to literature, Fantasy fiction and Fairytales as they do to Folk, Classical, Rock and Pop music. Music influences cited include Pentangle, Jethro Tull, Kate Bush, Pink Floyd, Queen, Paul Simon, Battles, Fleetwood Mac, Blowzabella and The Beach Boys. Reportedly Literary influences include The Inklings, Terry Pratchett, Shakespeare, Phillip Pullman and many others. Moulettes often put on shows that include theatre, puppetry, story telling and their own set designs.
Hannah Miller Aka Hannah Moulette is in the process of finishing an illustrated book of short stories that form the basis of the songs.
