De Allen started as a cover band in 1982. The original line-up of De Allen consisted of Billy D, Duane Vallejos, Jimmy (Bear) Larrea and Julian Forniss. At this point in time Billy D. was on rhythm guitars and keys and Julian was on bass. The early version of the band went through a revolving door of singers, sometimes just singing themselves. Even in the early stages the band recognized the need to put on a great show using intro tapes and lighting and put all their money into PA gear, lighting, etc.
By 1983 De Allen had built up a strong following as a cover band. In 1984 Billy D. had left the band to be replaced by another guitarist. The band split up 4 months later. During this period Duane and Billy had been separately writing original material. Billy had worked that year with a band called Roxong and had switched to bass. Deciding to leave Roxong, Billy, Duane and Joe Lopez had a meeting and decided to rebuild a new version of De Allen as an original band. Guitarist Gabe Sinoui (whom Billy and Duane coincidentally met separately but liked) was also added and the female singer formerly of Roxong. 
In the summer of 1986, Gabe and Duane left the project and were replaced by Nick Ruiz on guitar and Sean Dunbar on keyboards continuing to write and perform throughout 1986. In December of 1986 De Allen took a break due to the holidays. Unfortunately this break was to be permanent for this line-up. Joe Lopez was killed tragically in a single car accident January 17, 1987.
Early 1987 saw the return of Duane and original De Allen drummer Jimmy (Bear) Larrea. This forged the basis of the line-up that was to make it's mark. Signing with management the band sequestered itself for six months retooling it's image and direction with a plethora of new songs. With an early 1988 show at Gazzari's the band had exploded on the strip. By spring 1988 De Allen was playing every club on the Sunset Strip opening for bands such as Warrant, Guardian and Kik Tracee amongst others. Mid 1988 saw the release of the bands first effort "Lovers Lane" which was financed by the band and it's loyal following. "Lover's Lane" is a 6 song EP on vinyl that included the following tracks: My Time, Endless, Hold On To The Fire, Lay It On The Line, Television Dreams and their blistering remake of Heartbreak Hotel.
Mid 1988 saw the inevitable change in singers after 3 years. With De Allen's own desire to expand on it's roots with the recent addition of keyboardist Jim Gorski, we were steered by Michael Fell to a singer who brought to the table a charisma, power and singular freshness that the band was in great need of. This singer was chosen after over a dozen auditions and was "hands down" a great addition to the group. Susan Szatmari not only was an established talent as a singer / performer, but as a writer and a person. Three weeks after joining up with us we fulfilled a commitment at the Whiskey A Go-Go on the Sunset Strip not missing a single show, a testament in itself to her dedication and work ethic. We continued with our usual headlining shows throughout the strip and those that saw these performances were blown away with the ease at which Susan stepped into the fold with grace, class and pure positive energy the band never experienced with it's original singer! If one of you reading this was privileged enough to have been at one of these performances you know that this is not an exaggeration, but an understatement!!! 
Due to differences in creative direction Duane left in late 1989. Sean had left after the recoding of "Lover's Lane" and was replaced by Jim Gorski who also left at the end of 1989 due to personal and financial reasons. Susan had left for personal reasons and De Allen unofficially went on indefinite hiatus.
1993 saw the resurrection of De Allen Mk.2 in the form of Billy D, Tom Krisor on guitars, Greg Mayfield on drums and Denise Wright on vocals. A harder edged, non-keyboard De Allen as the times seemed to demand was born and picked up playing smaller venues, writing and recording.
By 1994 Billy D. had decided to follow up on other avenues feeling the limitations of Greg Mayfield left too large a hole in the rhythm section and left little potential for the band to grow beyond the point it was at. Though several other drummers were auditioned to replace Mayfield, it was a lost cause and Billy left to work with a series of established local bands before leaving the live scene completely to work alone on his original songs in his private recording facility in 1997 due to health and personal reasons.
In 1999, Billy D'Allyn started laying the groundwork and plans for a new De Allen release. In 1998 Billy D'Allyn remixed the early effort released on vinyl, "Lover's Lane" but felt it wasn't worth releasing on it's own, lacking too much in modern recording techniques. In 2000, plans were cemented between Billy D. and former Armada drummer/songwriter John Heald to record a new De Allen CD. So on July 13th 2000 recording began between Billy and John along with Guitarist Nick Ruiz and singer Denise Wright. Due to administrative decisions and issues in her own busy schedule with her vast other musical commitments, Denise Wright's tracks were to be re-recorded, completing what was to be the final mix of "De Allen - Twisted Inside" which was released to critical acclaim on November 15th, 2000 on Metal Mayhem Records. All the instrument tracks were recorded in Stage One Recording Studios engineered by Billy and the new vocal tracks were recorded at De La Bear Music Studios, engineered by Tim Dolbear. The final product was produced by Tim Dolbear and Billy D'Allyn. This labor of love 12 song release was recorded, mixed and mastered between July 14th 2000 and October 18th 2000. The 12 songs are a journey from commercial hard rockers to power ballads as well as more obscure rockers. Billy and John's collective influences can be heard throughout the recording including Dokken, Black Sabbath, Yes, Heart, Femme Fatale, Journey and Saga. Much of the initial recording had Billy wearing many hats doing duty on engineering, bass, rhythm guitars and even keyboards. 
On 10/5/2000 recording commenced on the follow-up to "Twisted Inside". This time out the line-up consist of Billy D'Allyn - Bass, Rhythm Guitars, Acoustic Guitar / John Heald - Drums, Lead Vocals, Backing Vocals / Nick Ruiz - Lead Guitars, Rhythm Guitars, Backing Vocals, Lead Vocals / Jimmy Gorski - Keyboards along with a hired male singer. The new CD released in early 2002, "Deceptions Of Reality" reflected a great growth in the direction of the band. More time was taken on the second release as De Allen worked to expand their musical horizons. Produced by Billy D'Allyn, John Heald and Tim Dolbear, Engineered by Billy D'Allyn and mastered by Tim Dolbear with Ryan Northrop acting as Executive Producer, the 13 tracks spanning over 1 hour have been considered to be De Allen's finest hour throughout regions of Japan and Germany as well as many here in the US. We are very pleased with the direction as well as the addition of Jim Gorski. We took great efforts to listen to you, our fans, in making a stronger release than the debut and feel this one exceeded everyone's expectations, including out own!!!!!
In 2003, new material was being written which culminated in the next phase of De Allen and the next De Allen CD "Ariel". In the wake of female singers such as Liz Phair and Avril Lavigne, we decided to hire a female singer and take De Allen in yet another creative direction. To better facilitate this, we also hired producer/guitarist Tim Dolbear to track the lead guitars while the drums, guitars, bass and keyboards were tracked in Stage One Studios new location in Oregon. Keyboard player Brian Ruedy also came on board and added an amazing dimension as well as Duane Vallejos also contributing some lead guitar. Tracking was concluded Summer 2004. On a sad note, drummer, background vocalist and co-writer John Heald passed away in September 2004. It was decided to shelve the project out of respect indefinitely suspending release. With the final mixing and mastering now taking place in Summer 2007 we are shooting for a release to add further to the De Allen saga. In addition, it is planned to release the original 1988 "Lover's Lane" EP remixed as bonus tracks for our fans, to date unreleased except for the 1000 pressed vinyl units.
As of Summer 2007 new songs were written/recorded by Billy D'Allyn taking a much heavier direction while using multiple lead guitar players such as Tim Dolbear, Nick Ruiz and Tracy G. formerly of DIO. Recently the singer formerly of Trajik Blonde has been added and several new tunes have been recorded and mixed with a more Guns N' Roses direction.
