Mains de Givre is a drone/violin project between Eric Quach, a self-taught experimentalist and milie Livernois-Desroches, a classically-trained polyvalent musician, both from Montreal. 
 
Eric is known for his experimental ambient works as thisquietarmy and is the founder of instrumental-shoegazer band Destroyalldreamers. 
 
milie has been playing violin since she was 7 years old and has been teaching since 2003. She has been part of various chamber music and symphonic orchestras, and performs with a wide variety of bands, styles ranging from pop to medieval music to extreme metal. Her better known project was Profugus Mortis, a melodic folk black metal band; Mains de Givre is her most experimental project to date. 
 
Eric & milie first crossed paths in 2003 within the emerging Montreal post-rock scene at the time. Following each other's musical achievements over the years, their mutual respect for each other kept growing and lead to a studio collaboration 6 years later, initially intended to be part of a release for thisquietarmy. As their personal and musical chemistry developed over the following months, their newfound closeness turned the collaboration into an official long-term project, dubbed Mains de Givre (frost hands), named after a nickname that was given to milie (émilie-aux-mains-de-givre) from her bandmates. 
 
Their debut album, Esther Marie, stems from the recorded material of their first jam session in the spring of 2009, to be released byTexturafor spring 2010. Watch the video trailer by Meryem Yildiz, who also did the album artwork:
